Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. - Psalm 37:4
I always over look this verse because it’s short and it’s frequently used. After reading it once I concluded that we just have to ask God what we want and He will fulfill it. It’s true that happiness is promised in this verse but not always in the way that we want. There’s actually two ways to correctly apply Psalms 37. First, when we center our lives, desires, pursuits, and EVERYTHING about ourselves to Christ, He is going to plants His desires within us. Second, As we seek Him more we will understand that orienting ourselves around Christ will make us happier.
My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. -Jeremiah 2:13
There is no place mentioned in the Bible where it says that God puts us down because we want to pursue happiness, it is only when we seek our happiness elsewhere. This is so convicting for me especially because I’ve tried to fulfill my own dreams but as I blindly kept pursuing, I became more devastated. Gotta work on trusting God so that He can change my heart.
